I’m a simple guy, really. Like most everyone my age, I like to play a game of old school Old Maid with my granddaughters while monitoring the 500 mb geostrophic wind on my iPad. I guess that second part is a leftover from my meteorologist days. My MP3 player is jammed with tunes by the Eagles, JT, Chicago and especially Jimmy Buffett. Yeah, I’m a Parrothead who saw his 12th Buffett concert at the Walnut Creek Amphitheater. I was NOT, however, the shirtless guy upfront wearing the parrot hat and eye patch and my wife was NOT the lady in the coconut-shell bra and grass skirt. As far as you know.
When I’m not at KIX I’m likely playing golf with my wife, Chris at the Neuse in Clayton. She is the ladies club-champ and I’m club-chump who gets to clean her clubs. You also might find me watching the Durham Bulls or Carolina Mudcats because my love of baseball is huge. Hockey is a game I grew up watching and playing and can’t wait to get to PNC to see the ‘Canes. College hoops is also high on my kiss list.
I love barbecue and barbecuing. My kids — Ericka and Phil — call me the condiment king, so of course, I love Eastern Carolina and Western Carolina Barbecue and execute a major faux pas when I use both on my meat.
I love the old west…the legend and the reality. I’ve spent more than a few hours on the dusty trails in Deadwood, SD, Virginia City, MT and Tombstone, AZ. And even to this day, there’s a portrait of John Wayne in velvet on the wall in my workshop.
Next to my family, one of my biggest loves is being on the radio talking to you and playing your favorite songs. And what a lucky guy I am because I get to do that every weekday morning.
