Stocks rally and oil tumbles as Wall Street hopes for a limited retaliation after US strikes on Iran

NEW YORK (AP) — Oil prices are flip-flopping, and the U.S. stock market is drifting higher following the United States’ bunker-busting entry into Israel’s war with Iran. Oil jumped as much as 4% shortly after trading began on Sunday night, but it quickly pared all of the gain by Monday morning. The S&P 500 rose 0.4%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 156 points and the Nasdaq composite rose 0.3%. Markets calmed amid hopes that Iran will not retaliate in a way that disrupts the global flow of crude, which would hurt economies worldwide but also its own. Treasury yields eased in the bond market.… Continue Reading

Solar advocates say Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” could undercut the industry and threaten jobs in North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. (WPTF) — President Trump’s “big beautiful bill” is casting a shadow over the future of solar energy, with proposed changes that could significantly reduce federal support for clean energy projects. The sweeping legislation, which shifts priority back to traditional energy sources, includes efforts to repeal solar and storage tax credits—sparking concerns across the…… Continue Reading

Who will have the 2025 song of the summer? We offer some predictions

NEW YORK (AP) — What makes a great song of the summer? Is it an up-tempo pop banger? Something with an earworm chorus? Does it need to feature the words “summer” or “sunshine” or “California”? The Associated Press views the song of the summer as the one that takes over those warm months between June and August. And in 2025, there are a number of contenders. Those include Bad Bunny’s “NUEVAYoL,” Alex Warren’s “Ordinary,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild,” KATSEYE’s “Gnarly,” Drake’s “Nokia,” Addison Rae’s “Fame Is a Gun” and the viral track “Boots on the Ground” by 803Fresh.… Continue Reading

Jury sees more sex videos as prosecutors wind down case against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

Jury sees more sex videos as prosecutors wind down case against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

NEW YORK (AP) — A jury has watched nearly 20 minutes of recordings of marathon sex events that prosecutors and defense lawyers have both cited as important to the outcome of the sex trafficking trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. The recordings shown to the jury Monday by prosecutors roughly doubled the time the jury has spent viewing the explicit footage of two of Combs’ former girlfriends sexually involved with male sex workers while Combs filmed the encounters. Combs has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges. Prosecutors expect to rest by Tuesday. After a defense presentation, closing arguments are expected to occur Thursday.… Continue Reading

Iran launches missile attacks on US bases in Qatar and Iraq

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran said its missile attack on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar matched the number of bombs dropped by the United States on its nuclear sites this weekend, signaling Iran’s likely desire to de-escalate. Iran made the announcement Monday night in a statement from its Supreme National Security Council after the attack, which Qatar said caused no injuries. Iran also said it targeted the base because it was outside of populated areas.… Continue Reading

‘Craziest’ reversal of fortune puts Mavs on path to Flagg after all the Doncic drama

‘Craziest’ reversal of fortune puts Mavs on path to Flagg after all the Doncic drama

DALLAS (AP) — Dallas Mavericks CEO Rick Welts marvels at the “craziest” reversal of fortune for the club that landed the rights to draft Cooper Flagg just months after the seismic trade of Luka Doncic. Dallas had just a 1.8% chance to win the draft lottery when Welts was telling his staff it was about to embark on the most important offseason in franchise history. He was thinking about the lingering fallout of the widely reviled Doncic trade. Suddenly the Mavs have a chance to grow with another young player who has superstar potential in Flagg, the teenager from Duke.… Continue Reading

Israel targets Iran’s government and a key Tehran prison as Iran launches more attacks on Israel

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Israel says it hit Iranian government targets in Tehran in a series of strikes that followed a salvo of missiles and drones fired by Iran at Israel earlier in the day in the wake of the Trump administration’s massive strikes on Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend. Israel’s Defense Ministry said it hit targets in Tehran, including the notorious Evin Prison and the security headquarters of the paramilitary Revolutionary Guards. The Israeli military also confirmed it hit roads around Iran’s Fordo enrichment facility to obstruct access to the site on Monday. The underground site was one of those hit in Sunday’s attack by the U.S. The Israeli military did not elaborate.… Continue Reading

‘How to Train Your Dragon’ tops the US box office as ‘Elio’ marks a new low for Pixar

NEW YORK (AP) — “How to Train Your Dragon” is maintaining its top ranking in movie theaters. The Universal Pictures live-action remake maintained its No. 1 spot at the North American box office despite two sizeable new releases this weekend. Studio estimates show neither Pixar’s “Elio” nor the zombies of “28 Years Later” could topple “How to Train Your Dragon’s” $37 million in ticket sales in its second weekend. The film has rapidly amassed $358.2 million worldwide. “Elio” took in just $21 million, the lowest opening ever for Pixar. The zombie sequel “28 Years Later” debuted with $30 million.… Continue Reading
